Hops' late runs not enough Friday night at Everett, where the AquaSox start fast and even the Northwest League baseball series at 1-1

The Hillsboro Hops got off to a slow start on Friday — after their torrid start of Thursday — and fell to 1-1 in the Class A Northwest League baseball season.

The Hops, who won the season opener thanks in part to home runs by the second and third batters of the game, trailed 3-0 after one inning of Game 2 and went on to lose 5-3 at the Everett AquaSox.

Everett added a run in both the sixth and seventh innings before the Hops closed with one run in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Hillsboro led in hits, 7-6, but had none for extra bases and went 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position.

Hops second baseman Yan Sanchez was 2 for 4, and shortstop Domingo Leyba and catcher Luke Lowery each drove in a row.

Hillsboro starter Mitch Aker was the loser. He allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits and no walks over six innings, while fannking four.

Attendance at Everett Memorial Stadium was 3,589.

Game 3 of a five-game set is 7 p.m. Saturday.
