South holds 10-0 lead until late in annual high school all-star football game at Hillsboro Stadium on Saturday

The North scored with 1:15 remaining but couldn't capture an onside kick, and the South ran out the clock.

Jefferson High's Terrell "Rayray" West was named North Back of the Game. He had eight tackles, six solo.

North finished with a 229-228 edge in total yards, and each team had two turnovers in the 90 degree-plus matinee.

South took a 7-0 lead with 1:41 left in the first quarter, when McMinnville's Wyatt Smith hit Wilsonville's Harrison Steiger with a 17-yard touchdown pass.

Jerin Appling of Grants Pass added the extra point and kicked a 28-ayrd field goal with 4:37 remaining in the third quarter.

After a late South punt, the North drove 38 yards in eight plays for its TD. Jake McGreevy of Clackamas scored on a 2-yard run, after a third-and-13 pass good for 14 yards to the 2 from Sunset's Jason Dumont to Centennial's Jesse Porter II.

Smith, who was 6 for 10 passing for 61 yards, was named the game's MVP.
