Timbers 2 and Orange County SC play to 3-3 tie in a United Soccer League battle that features three red cards

BijevGustavo Villalobos scored in stoppage time to deny Portland Timbers 2 their second win of the season on Saturday.

In a wild finish that included an on-field scuffle that led to three red cards, Timbers 2 and Orange County SC battled to a 3-3 draw in a United Soccer League match at Irvine, California.

Villalobos scored from close range in the 91st minute, running onto the end of a free kick taken from midfield to complete a wild finish that saw the teams combine for four goals in the final half hour.

Portland is 1-13-2 on the season, last in the USL. Orange County is 4-4-2 for 14 points.

T2 scored twice from corner kicks and once from a penalty kick. Villyan Bijev's second goal of the night, a penalty kick in the 85th minute, put Portland up 3-2 late in the match. It was awarded when Augustine Williams was fouled inside the penalty area.

Bijev's first goal was a sharp header at the near post off a Tomas Granitto corner kick in the 31st minute had T2 in front 1-0 at halftime.

Orange County tied it from a penalty kick and took a 2-1 lead on a 57th minute free kick goal from Carolos Alvarez.

Portland tied it in the 71st minute. A corner kick from Blake Bodily found the head of Max Ornstil at the far post. Ornstil headed the ball back across the front of goal and Russell Cicerone was there to blast home the finish.

The scuffle near midfield resulted in red cards to Orange County midfielders Jerry van Ewijk and Amirgy Pineda and T2 defender Lamar Batista.

T2 goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh played a strong match. He was credited with nine saves and made several point-blank reaction stops to keep the score close.

Next for T2 is a July 9 home match against LA Galaxy II. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Providence Park.
