SATURDAY SPORTS NEWS/Christine Sinclair is one of 99 given the Order of Canada to mark the country's 150th birthday

SINCLAIRPortland Thorns forward Christine Sinclair is one of 99 recipients of the Order of Canada in 2017 to mark Canada's 150th birthday.

Sinclair, who also starred at the University of Portland, has scored 168 goals in 259 appearances for Canada over 17 years and was named Canada Soccer's player of the year 13 times.

Sinclair is one of 19 people honored as Officers of the Order of Canada. Among that group are actor/comedian Mike Myers, Jepordy! television host Alex Trebek and Hockey Hall of Famer Mark Messier.

"I think what's special for me is that this goes beyond soccer," Sinclair told "I am a very, very proud Canadian, I am proud of where I am from, and to be recognized in this nature is surreal.  It's not something you can dream about happening to you. I can dream of winning a World Cup or an Olympic Gold Medal, and that's my job, but to have your country recognize you — I don't even know what to say."
