Idaho State runs roughshod over Vikings
The misery continues for Portland State football.
The Vikings' losing streak is nine, dating to last season, after Idaho State administered a 59-30 drubbing Saturday at Pocatello.
PSU fell to 0-7 this season, 0-4 in the Big Sky.
The Vikings gave up 691 yards to the Bengals, 4-4, 2-3.
Portland State led 2-0 early when Idaho State's first snap of the day went over the quarterack's head and through the end zone.
The teams traded scores for most of the first half, and a 77-yard touchdown run by Andre Petties-Wilson pulled the Viks to within 17-16.
But the Bengals got two TD passes — including a school-record 97-yarder — to lead 31-16 at the half.
A 41-yard touchdown pass 33 seconds into the third quarter made the score 38-16, and PSU couldn't recover.
ISU led 52-23 after three quarters and 59-23 early in the fourth.
Portland State's other touchdowns came on a 31-yard pass from Jalani Eason to Trent Riley in the first quarter, a 27-yard Eason-to-Darnell Adams pass in the third quarter, and Carlos Wilson's 13-yard run with nine minutes left in the game.
Eason, a true freshman from Los Angeles, returned to the starting lineup, replacing senior Josh Kraght at QB. Eason completed 19 of 38 passes for 256 yards, with one interception.
Riley had six catches for 71 yards.
Five backs carried the ball for Portland State, with Eason adding 10 rushes for 34 yards.
PSU will be back home next week, taking on North Dakota at 4 p.m. Saturday at Providence Park. UND lost 34-27 at home to Sacramento State. The Fighting Hawks slipped to 2-6, 1-4.
