Houston crash kills son of former Blazers coach
R.J. Adelman, the oldest of former Trail Blazers coach Rick Adelman's six children, was killed in a traffic accident in Houston last Friday.
Adelman was a pedestrian struck by an 80-year-old woman driving a minivan while crossing a street in downtown Houston, according to a TMZ Sports report. He was transported to a local hospital in serious condition and died four hours later. He was 44.
Adelman played basketball for Willamette University. He later served as an assistant coach for his father with the Houston Rockets and was director of player personnel when his father was head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Adelmans are a basketball coaching family. R.J.'s brother David is an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets. Brother Pat is head coach of Lincoln High's boys team. Sister Kathy is head coach of the Beaverton High girls team.
