    Four players for Portland are among those whose salaries will be covered by their national federations during the 2018 National Women's Soccer League season.

    Christine Sinclair (Canada), Tobin Heath (United States), Lindsey Horan (USA) and Emily Sonnett (USA) were among the federation players announced on Thursday by the NWSL.

    Meghan Klingenberg is no longer a USA federation player. The Thorns retain her rights but must sign her to a new contract.

    The Thorns open their 2018 training camp on Monday. They also announced they will play host to a preseason tournament featuring Chicago, Houston and the United States under-23 national team. That tournament will include games on March 11, March 14 and March 17 at the University of Portland's Merlo Field.

    PGA TOUR

    Aaron Wise, the 2016 NCAA champion from the University of Oregon, opened play in the Genesis Open with a 3-under-par 68 at Riviera Country Club and is two shots out of the lead, tied for seventh.

    Wise bogeyed the 12th and 13th holes to fall to 1-under, then birdied the 16th and 17th.

    The leaders at 66 are Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau.

    Other notables: Justin Thomas (69), Phil Mickelson (70), Rory McIlroy (71), Jordan Spieth (71), Tiger Woods (72) and Dustin Johnson (74).

    Wise was paired with Kevin Streelman (72) and Luke List (72).

    LPGA TOUR

    Eugene's Caroline Inglis, former state prep champion and Pac-12 winner for the Oregon Ducks, was tied for 38th at even-par 144 after the second of four rounds of the $1.3 million ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open.

    She followed a 68 with a 76 at the Kooyonga Golf Club's 6,599-yard layout in Adelaide, South Australia.

    The first-round leader, Jin Young Ko, went from 65 to 69, but still was 10-under and three shots clear of second-place Emma Talley by three strokes.

    COLLEGE FOOTBALL

    Western Oregon will begin its 11-game season on Sept. 1 at home against nonleague Angelo State.

    The Wolves' first three games will be played in Monmouth, with Central Washington due for the Sept. 8 Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener and Azusa Pacific on tap Sept. 15.

    Other home games are Sept. 29 versus Simon Fraser and Oct. 20 against Humboldt State.

    The regular-season finale is the third nonleague game for WOU. It will be Nov. 10 at Eastern New Mexico.

    Western Oregon also will go out of the GNAC to visit Texas A&M-Kingsville on Oct. 6.
