SATURDAY WHL RECAP/Americans jump on Winterhawks, post 6-2 road victory over Portland

The Tri-City Americans got some measure of revenge on the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday night at Moda Center.

Portland had won the previous two meetings, 5-0 and 9-0.

This time, the Ams won, 6-2, never trailing.

Alex Overhardt's goal pulled Portland to within 2-1 just 27 seconds into the second period.

But the Americans scored the next three goals.

Portland's other score came from Joachim Blichfeld.

The Hawks fell to 42-21-1-4, 89 points.

The Americans are 34-24-8-1 (77 points).

Everett leads second-place Portland in the Western Hockey League U.S. Division at 45-18-2-3 (95) after its 3-2 win Saturday at Seattle.

Everett will play at Portland at 5 p.m. Sunday in Moda Center.

After that, Everett concludes its regular season with games Tuesday at Tri-City, Friday at home versus Victoria and Saturday at Victoria.

Portland will wrap up its regular season playing host to Seattle on Friday and Sunday and visiting the Thunderbirds on Saturday.
