Mel Counts, a 7-foot center, leads Slats Gill-coached Oregon State to a 69-65 victory over the Seattle University Chieftains in an NCAA playoff game. The Beavers game is part of a playoff doubleheader at Gill Coliseum. A crowd of 9,702 also sees Utah State top Arizona State, 78-73.

• Tickets for the Portland Buckaroos-Calgary Stampeders hockey game at Memorial Coliseum are on sale for $1.50 general admission and $2 and $2.50 reserved.

The Bucks win, 6-2, and lead the Western Hockey League Southern Division, which also consists of Spokane, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
