UCLA takes series opener at Oregon
UCLA 6, OREGON 2
• The No. 6 Ducks dropped the opener of a showdown series in their Pac-12 season-opening game at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene.
Third-ranked UCLA (25-0) got two runs in the fourth inning, one in the sixth and three in the seventh, and out-hit Oregon 9-5.
The Ducks had won five games in a row.
Lauren Lindvall homered in the seventh with no one aboard, as Oregon fell to 23-5 overall.
Megan Kleist (7-4) took the loss, giving up seven hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings.
The teams will meet again at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
OREGON STATE 10, California 5
• The Beavers kicked off their Pac-12 slate with an upset of the No. 16 Bears.
OSU (18-9 overall) had 13 hits to nine for Cal (23-4).
Hope Brandner had a home run and three RBIs, and Michelle Sass homered and drove in two runs for the Beavers. McKenna Arriola matched those two and three other OSU players with two hits, while also getting three RBIs.
Meehra Nelson (10-4) gave up three runs in four innings to get the win.
The next game in the series is noon Saturday. The final game is noon Sunday.
SEATTLE 2, Portland State 0
• Alyssa Burk (2-6) tossed a two-hitter and Ashley Doyle hit a third-inning grand slam as PSU beat Bryant. Burk walked four and struck out 14.
The host Redhawks held Portland State to five hits in the late afternoon game.
PSU is 5-17.
Bryant fell to 4-12.
Seattle improved to 15-12.
