WEDNESDAY LOCAL SPORTS NEWS/Winterhawks' Glass makes all-WHL Western Conference team, Jokiharju voted to second team

• Catcher Mike Zunino belted three home runs as the Mariners raised their Cactus League record to 12-14 win the win in Peoria, Arizona.

Milwaukee fell to 17-8.

Zunino hit two-run shots in the second and fourth innings and added a solo HR in the sixth. He was 4 for 4, with the five RBIs and three runs scored.

Mike Leake (1-1) got the win, scattering 10 hits and allowing four runs in six innings as the starter.

Nick Vincent pitched a perfect ninth for the save.

Ryon Healy, the Mariners' new first baseman via Oakland, continued his return fro injury and went 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Leadoff man Dee Gordon was 2 for 3, with a double.

Ichiro Suzuki played left field, batted ninth and was 0 for 2 with two strikeouts.


Forward Cody Glass of Portland was named all-Western Conference in the Western Hockey League.

Hawks defenseman Henri Jokiharju made the second team.

Glass also was voted the West's Most Sportsmanlike Player.


Portland midfielder Lindsey Horan and defender Emily Sonnett will join the U.S. team for friendlies against Mexico on April 5 and 8.

They won't miss any National Women's Soccer League games.

The first U.S.-Mexico match is at Jacksonville, Florida. The other is at Houston.
