SATURDAY COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP/Oregon State falls to Arizona State in middle game; Pacific uses big fifth inning to beat Pilots

OREGON 9, USC 2

• Behind the pitching of sophomore Kenyon Yovan from Westview High, the Ducks snapped a six-game losing streak with a win at PK Park.

Yovan (4-2) struck out 15 batters without a walk, fanning the first six Trojans. He allowed five hits and two runs in eight innings.

On a rainy day, USC pitchers issued 13 walks and hit two Ducks.

The Ducks had eight hits, two apiece by Jakob Goldfarb, who doubled, and Spencer Steer.

Oregon improved to 20-20 overall, while USC fell to 19-20. Both clubs are 7-13 in Pac-12 play.

The series is 1-1 with a noon Sunday game remaining.

Arizona State 8, OREGON STATE 5

• The fifth-ranked Beavers will need a win in the 1 p.m. finale on Sunday to pull out the series at Goss Stadium against the Sun Devils.

OSU fell on Saturday, with ASU scoring the final four runs.

Brandon Eisert (3-3) took the loss, after giving up three runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Starter Bryce Fehmel had allowed eight hits and four runs in five innings.

Steven Kwan and Cadyn Grenier each had three hits for OSU (31-7 overall, 11-6 Pac-12).

The Sun Devils improved to 18-24, 10-10, with the third game of the series set for 1 p.m. Sunday.

Pacific 14, PORTLAND 7

• The Tigers won at Joe Etzel Field for the second day in a row to assure themselves of a series victory.

The teams were tied at 0-0 when Pacific got seven runs in the fifth inning.

UP fell despite a pair of two-run home runs, one each by Cody Hawken and Hunter Montgomery, who each had there RBIs.

The Tigers will take a 17-24 overall record and 8-12 West Coast Conference mark into the noon Sunday game.

The Pilots are 16-26, 8-12 WCC.
