USC shuts out No. 2 Beavers

• The Trojans averted a three-game sweep with their home win, as they held No. 2 OSU to four hits and four walks, with eight strikeouts.
Adley Rutschman had a single and double in the loss.
Oregon State fell to 42-9-1 overall and 18-8-1 in the Pac-12, where Stanford (21-6) is one win away from clinching the title going into its final series of the regular season next week at Washington.
USC improved to 25-25, 12-18.
Kevin Abel (3-1) gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) in 4 1/3 innings of his fourth start of the season for the Beavers.
UCLA 10, Oregon 2
• The Ducks got swept in Los Angeles, where the Bruins jumped on them with six second-inning runs.
UCLA, ranked 17th, improved to 35-17 overall and 18-9 in the Pac-12.
Oregon fell to 25-27, 11-16.
Starter Kolby Somers fell to 2-7.
Jonny DeLuca had an RBI single for UO in the sixth, and Jakob Goldfarb singled home a run in the seventh.
Portland 4, PEPPERDINE 0
• The visiting Pilots claimed a series victory over the West Coast Conference-leading Waves.
Camden Muller and Tate Budnick combined for a shutout, and Cody Hawken and Ryan Hoogerwerf hit back-to-back homers.
Portland hadn't won a series over Pepperdine since 2011.
Muller (3-3) didn't allow a hit through the first four innings.
The Pilot homers came in the fourth, with Hawken hitting his team-high 10th and Hoogerwerf following with his sixth of the year.
Budnick retired the first six batters he faced in a three-inning stint.
Hawken and Hoogerwerf each added an RBI single in the ninth.
The Pilots improved to 23-29 overall and finished 12-15 in the WCC, while Pepperdine which won the conference title, dropped to 29-22, 17-10.
