THURSDAY COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP/Arizona takes care of host Oregon in start of final series

OREGON STATE 2, UCLA 0

The Beavers rode Luke Heimlich's pitching to a victory in the first game of the three-game, regular season-ending series at Corvallis.

The 18th-ranked Bruns managed six hits, five against Heimlich (14-1) in his 7 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out 10.

Brandon Eisert pitched the rest of the game for his fifth save of the season.

OSU had just five hits, but scored its runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Tyler Malone and ground out by Jack Anderson.

The Beavers improved to 43-9-1 overall and 19-8-1 in the Pac-12.

UCLA fell to 35-18, 18-10.

Game 2 is 4 p.m. Friday.



Arizona 10, OREGON 2

• The Ducks trailed all the way in dropping the series opener at PK Park.

The result guaranteed a losing season record for coach George Horton's Ducks, who dropped to 25-28 with two games remaining. Oregon also fell to 11-17 (eighth) in the 11-team Pac-12.

The Wildcats are 33-21, 13-15.

Arizona had 14 hits and scored in each of the first four innings to go in front, 5-1.

Four runs in the top of the ninth for UA capped the game's scoring.

Oregon starter Cullen Kafka (3-2) took the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned) in three innings.

The second game of the three-game set is 7 p.m. Friday.
