FRIDAY COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP/Former Westview star's two-hitter holds off Arizona, 2-1, at PK Park; OSU takes second in a row from UCLA

OREGON 2, Arizona 1

• It took a heroic effort by former closer Kenyon Yovan, and his two-hit pitching led the Ducks to a win at PK Park.

Oregon had lost four in a row, including Friday's series opener, 10-2.

Yovan, a sophomore from Westview High, walked three and struck out six in raising his record this season to 6-4.

Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on an unearned run brought home by Jonny DeLuca, who doubled with one out.

Arizona tied the score with a home run in the top of the seventh — it broke up a no-hit bid by Yovan.

UO went ahead in the bottom of the frame, as Kyle Kasser stroked a two-out, RBI single.

In the ninth, the Wildcats loaded the bases with an Oregon error and two hit batsmen. Yovan got out of the jam, though, finishing with two strikeouts and a fly out to center field — and with 139 total pitches.

The Ducks raised their record to 26-28 and 12-17 in the Pac-12.

The Wildcats, still hoping for an NCAA tournament berth, are 33-22, 13-16.

The end of the three-game set is 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Beavers, ranked first and second nationally in the major polls, clinched a series victory over UCLA with the Game 2 win at Goss Stadium.

Kyle Nobach's three-run home run in the sixth helped back the pitching of Bryce Fehmel (9-1), who allowed three hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings against the 18th-ranked Bruns.

The Beavers are 44-9-1 overall and 20-8-1 in the Pac-12.

UCLA dropped to 35-19, 18-11.

Game 3 closes the series and regular season at 2 p.m. Saturday.
