Seattle's 3-1 victory Saturday night at home over Tampa Bay includes Ryon Healy's ninth home run

The Seattle Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-1, on Saturday night at Safeco Field.

The M's took a 2-0 lead in the three-game series and improved to 36-22.

They also pulled even Houston in the American League West with one game to go — against the Rays at 1 p.m. Sunday — before playing the Astros twice at Houston (5 p.m. PT Tuesday and Wednesday).

Houston lost 5-4 at home to Boston on Saturday.

Seattle out-hit Tampa Bay, 9-5, with former Oregon Duck Ryon Healy getting his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot in the sixth inning that boosted the Mariners' lead to 3-1. It was his 26th RBI.

Nelson Cruz singled home the game's first run, and Kyle Seager added an RBI double in a two-run third.

Seattle starter Marco Gonzales raised his record to 6-3. He gave up one run on five hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings, striking out six.

Edwin Diaz turned in a perfect ninth, with one strikeout, to gain his 20th save of 2018.

The Rays slipped to 28-29.

Sunday's probable starters are Felix Hernandez (5-4, 5.83) and Tampa Bay left-hander Blake Snell (7-3, 2.56).
