This highly successful Oregon State basketball coach and Portland Timbers defender have reason to celebrate

Scott Rueck (age 49)

The Oregon State women's basketball coach, born in Hillsboro, began his current career as a boys basketball assistant coach at Santiam Christian High. He then was an assistant to Sherri Murrell at George Fox, where his sister, Heidi, was an NAIA All-American point guard. He also coached women's tennis there. The 1991 OSU graduate returned to his alma mater after 14 years as head women's coach at George Fox, where he was 288-88, including 32-0 in its 2008-09 NCAA D-III national championship season.

Alvas Powell (age 24)

The native of Danvers Pen, St. Thomas, Jamaica, is a 6-0, 165-pound defender for the Portland Timbers.
