WEDNESDAY LOCAL SPORTS NEWS/De Carolis starts new job with Santa Clara athletics department

Lewis & Clark is off to a 7-0 start, and among the rewards for the program is the individual honor accorded to senior middle blocker/outside hitter Kortney Meyer.

She has been named the Northwest Conference Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week.

Meyer, 5-11 and from Phoenix, averaged 3.00 kills per set and hit .268 last weekend, as the Pioneers defeated Washington and Lee, and then DeSales, in Lexington, Virginia.

Concordia University has promoted Branko Djuricic to associated head coach. He has been the assistant at his alma mater since 2013, working primarily with multi-event athletes, sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers and with head coach Jerret Mantalas.

Santa Clara announced on Tuesday the hiring of former Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis as deputy director of athletics.

He will oversee internal operations, including academics, the business office, compliance, sports medicine, sports performance and student-athlete services.

De Carolis was OSU's athletic director for 13 years, then returned to the University of Michigan for two years as a senior advisor to the AD.

Santa Clara AD Renee Baumgartner, a Portland native and former administrator and women's golf coach at Oregon, noted a "long working relationship" with De Carolis "from our time on Pac-12 Conference and NCAA committees. He has expertise in a number of areas and great experience, which will help make us even better as we continue to move the needle."
