Layman leads the way for Portland, scoring a game-high 28 points in exhibition at Moda Center

The Trail Blazers blew out the Phoenix Suns, 116-83, at Moda Center in an NBA exhibition game Wednesday night.

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum sat this one out. Moe Harkless (ankle), Evan Turner (shoulder) and rookie Gary Trent Jr. (quadricep) also did not play.

Jake Layman led the Blazers with 28 points in 28 minutes. He was 5 of 7 on both 2- and 3-point shots and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line.

Wade Baldwin scored 15 points for Portland. Nik Stauskas added 10 points, with seven rebounds and five assists.

Phoenix was without Devin Booker, who is recovering from hand surgery, but the No. 1 pick in the 2018 draft, big man Deandre Ayton, had nine points and four rebounds in 15 minutes, and Josh Jackson scored 13 points.

The Suns fell to 2-3.

Portland, which sank 15 of 32 attempts from beyond the 3-point line, has one more game before the start of the regular season. The Blazers will be at home again on Friday to face the Sacramento Kings.
