Winterhawks silence Rockets
Joachim Blichfeld had a goal and two assists and Shane Farkas stopped all 26 shots he faced Saturday as the Portland Winterhawks beat the Kelowna Rockets, 3-0, in Western Hockey League action in front of 7,747 fans action at Moda Center.
Blichfeld scored his 15th goal of the season, an unassisted tally 3:20 into the game.
Blichfeld had the primary assist on Cody Glass' seventh goal of the season at 6:43 of the second period and on Reece Newkirk's 11th goal of the season at 11:04 of the third period.
Portland outshot Kelowna, 50-26, including 22-8 in the first period.
The Hawks were 0 for 6 on the power play, the Rockets 0 for 5.
Portland improved to 11-6-0-1 (23 points), second in the U.S. Division.
Kelowna fell to 8-11 -0-0 (16), fourth in the B.C. Division.
The teams play at 5 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Coliseum.
