SATURDAY WHL RECAP/Shane Farkas makes 22 saves for shutout as Portland beats Prince George 3-0

The Portland Winterhawks completed a weekend sweep of the Prince George Cougars with a 3-0 Western Hockey League win on Saturday in front of 3,670 fans at Memorial Coliseum.

Goalie Shane Farkas made 22 saves in his second shutout of the season.

Jake Gricius, Ryan Hughes and Jaydon Dureau scored goals.

Portland's fourth consecutive wins improved it to 18-10-0-2 (38 points), second behind Everett in the U.S. Division. Prince George is 11-16-1-2 (25), fifth in the B.C. Division.

Gricius opened the scoring with his 14th goal of the season, 16:38 into the first period.

In the second period, Ryan Hughes scored his 10th goal of the season on a power play and Dureau scored his sixth with 25 seconds left in the period.

Defenseman Jared Freadrich had two assists.

Portland was 1 for 3 on the power play and killed six Prince George power plays.

The Winterhawks play three road games next week. They travel to Victoria for games Tuesday and Wednesday against the Royals. On Dec. 15, they visit Tri-City, then return home for a Dec. 16 game against the Americans at Moda Center.
