WEDNESDAY WHL RECAP/Down 2-0 after one period, Portland scores seven unanswered goals for victory at Victoria

After losing one game the night before and giving up the first two goals on Wednesday, the Portland Winterhawks turned into a different team

The Hawks, who lost 7-4 at Victoria on Tuesday, scored seven goals in a row to beat the Royals 7-2.

Portland trailed 2-0 after 14:57 and going into the second period.

The Winterhawks scored four goals in the second and three more in the first 8:05 of the third.

Ryan Hughes and Joachim Blichfeld each finished with two goals for the Hawks. Blichfeld and Clay Hanus each had two assists, Hughes one.

Jake Gricius got three assists, and Reece Newkirk earned two assists with one goal.

Shane Farkas stopped 24 shots to earn the win in goal.

Hughes began the Portland scoring 5:34 into the second frame. Just 63 seconds later, Seth Jarvis tied the score.

Hughes got what turned out to be the winning goal on a power play at 13:19. Blichfeld scored at 17:32.

In the third period, Jaydon Dureau scored at 2:01, Newkirk at 6:34 and Blichfeld at 8:05.

The Hawks fired 34 shots and were 3 of 4 on the power play (their final two goals came with the man advantage).

Victoria was 0 of 6 on power plays.

Portland improved to 19-11-0-2 (40 points), while the Royals fell to 14-13-1-0 (29).
