FRIDAY WHL RECAP/Americans score final three goals to down Portland 4-2 at Kennewick

The Tri-City Americans kept the Portland Winterhawks from scoring after the first period on Friday and rallied for a 4-2 Western Hockey League win at Kennewick, Washington.

Goals from Jared Freadrich and Cody Glass put Portland ahead 2-1 midway through the first period. But that was the only scoring for the Winterhawks as Tri-City goalie Beck Warm made 34 saves.

The Winterhawks are 36-17-3-3 (78 points), second in the U.S. Division. The Americans are 33-21-2-1 (69), third in the division.

Parker AuCoin, Krystof Hrabik, Samuel Huo and Nolan Yaremko scored for the Americans, with Huo tallying the go-ahead goal 15:32 into the second period.

An empty-net goal by Yaremko with a minute left sealed the outcome, despite the Hawks having an 11-5 shots advantage in the third period.

Portland was 0 for 1 on the power play, Tri-City 0-4.

Portland visits Seattle on Saturday for a 6 p.m. game that will be televised on KRCW.
