Stanford holds off Ducks; Beavers rally vs. Arizona
Stanford 5, OREGON 4
The Ducks outhit Stanford 13-7 but couldn't quite overcome a 5-2 deficit through 5 1/2 innings.
The Cardinal, atop the Pac-12, improved to 11-2 in the conference and 25-6 overall.
The Ducks fell to 22-14, 7-6.
Jonny DeLuca opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double as Oregon led 1-0. Spencer Steer's third-inning home run pulled the Ducks even at 2-2. In the sixth, Jakob Goldfarb had an RBI single for UO, and the Ducks got an unearned run in the seventh.
OREGON STATE 8, Arizona 4
Ryan Ober's three-run home run in the eighth inning capped the OSU rally at Goss Stadium.
The Beavers improved to 13-4 in the Pac-12 and 26-8-1.
The Wildcats are 6-10, 18-17.
UA led 4-1 after four innings and 4-2 after Oregon State got an inside-the-park home run from Adley Rutschman in the fifth.
OSU scored twice in the seventh to pull even, then went ahead in the eighth on a two-out RBI triple by Jake Harvey. But that was only the warmup for Ober's dramatics, as reliever Dylan Pearce (1-0) picked up the victory.
Ober finished with four RBIs. He and Matthew Gretler were 3 for 5. Rutschman went 2 for 3.
OSU starter Brandon Eisert gave up six hits and four runs, with five walks and nine strikeouts, over 6 1/3 innings of the series opener.
SAN DIEGO 4, Portland 3 (10 innings)
The host Toreros used a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 10th to get the winning run home, after Portland's Hunter Montgomery had completed a rally from a 3-0 deficit with a two-run home run in the seventh that tied the score at 3-3.
UP starter Cameron Richmand gave up three runs in four innings before giving way to the bullpen. Nate Packard and Christian Peters held USC scoreless for five innings before Peters (1-2) took the loss.
The Pilots are 2-14 in the West Coast Conference and 20-18 this year.
The Toreros are 8-8 in the WCC and 24-14 overall.
OREGON 1, California 0
A three-hitter by Jordan Dail (15-10) led the Ducks to the series-opening win at Jane Sanders Stadium.
Dail walked three and struck out 11.
Oregon, which had four hits, scored in the fifth on an RBI double by Jasmine Sievers.
The Ducks are 18-21 overall and 3-10 in Pac-12 play.
The Bears slipped to 23-21, 2-13.
UCLA 8, OREGON STATE 1
At Corvallis, the No. 2-ranked Bruins trailed 1-0 after four innings, then got two runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and two in the seventh to nail down a series-opening victory.
UCLA outhit OSU 10-3, pinning the loss on starter Mariah Mazon (12-11), who gave up nine hits and six runs (three earned) in five innings.
The Beavers scored in their first at-bat, with Jessica Garcia drilling an RBI single.
UCLA climbed to 12-1 in conference and 38-2 for the year.
Oregon State dropped to 21-15 for the season and 3-11 in Pac-12 games.
COLLEGE WOMEN'S GOLF
Portland State juniors Jasmine Cabajar and Valerie Hernandez were named to the all-Big Sky second and third team, respectively.
University of Portland head coach Jeff Baxter has added to his duties an assistant coaching job with the Canadian national team, whose head coach is Georgia head coach Tom Black.
Baxter will be busy with Canada this summer as it prepares for 2020 Summer Olympics qualification.
Former University of Oregon golfer Wyndham Clark shot a 1-under-par 70 and was tied for 39th after the first round of the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Shane Lowry's 65 was good for a one-shot lead over five others.
In the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Championship at Prattville, Alabama, former Jesuit High golfer Scott Harrington fired a 1-under 71 and rookie Norman Xiong from the University of Oregon opened with a 70.
Harrington was tied for 60th and Xiong tied for 36th.
Robby Shelton and Chase SEiffert took the lead with 65s.
