College baseball: With five wins in a row, Oregon State has moved up to second in the Pac-12. OSU (14-4) trails Stanford (13-2), with UCLA (11-4) and Arizona State (12-6) right behind the Beavers. Oregon (7-8) is seventh. … The Beavers play at noon Tuesday at Nevada, then welcome Washington State (1-13 Pac-12) to Goss Stadium for three games (5:30 p.m. Friday, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday). … This weekend, the Ducks are at California (8-7 Pac-12) for three games (7 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday).

The Portland Pilots (21-19, 3-15 West Coast Conference) have a nonleague home game against Washington at 6 p.m. Tuesday, then play host to WCC foe Santa Clara (7-29, 2-13). Those games are 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday.

College softball: The Ducks are scheduled to play host to Portland State for a 4 p.m. Tuesday doubleheader. Then comes the Civil War series in Eugene, with games against Oregon State at 2:30 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. In the Pac-12, Oregon is 4-11, OSU 3-13. Overall, the Ducks are 19-22, the Beavers 21-18.

Portland State will visit Sacramento State for three games (a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and noon single game on Saturday). The Vikings and Idaho State are tied for third in the Big Sky at 5-6, behind Weber State (12-1) and Sac State (8-3). Northern Colorado is 5-9 and fifth, followed by Montana (4-8) and Southern Utah (3-9). Six of the seven teams will qualify for the conference tourney.

College women's gymnastics: Oregon State placed sixth in last week's NCAA championships at Fort Worth, Texas — the highest finish under coach Tanya Chaplin, whose Beavers were eighth in 2010 and 2011.

WNBA: The first of three preseason games for the Atlanta Dream (which now includes rookie guard Maite Cazorla from Oregon and second-year center Marie Gulich out of Oregon State) will be on May 13 against the Dallas Wings in Uncasville, Conn. The regular season starts on May 24 with the same teams also playing at Atlanta.

Sydney Wiese, a former OSU guard back for a second season with the Los Angeles Sparks, is slated to play May 21 at the Phoenix Mercury to begin the preseason.

WHL: The Western Hockey League playoffs are down to the final four.

In the Western Conference finals, the Vancouver Giants are up 2-0 on the Spokane Chiefs, with the series shifting to Spokane for games Tuesday and Wednesday. Vancouver limited Spokane's high-powered offense to three goals over the first two games.

In the Eastern Conference, Prince Albert and Edmonton are tied 1-1. Prince Albert has been the the top team in the WHL all season.
