Dana Altman is introduced in Eugene as the men's basketball coach at the University of Oregon. Former athletic director Pat Kilkenny says the Ducks had five national championship coaches express interest in the job "and three of them would have taken it." Altman (327-176 over 16 years at Creighton) says "we'll build something special here. Everything's in place."

• Portland Public Schools Superintendent Carole Smith proposes converting Benson High to a career-tech center for juniors and seniors — and eliminating athletics.
