Chicago scores six second-inning runs off Seattle ace; Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez and Willson Contreras homer; M's manage only one hit

LESTERThe Chicago Cubs dealt Seattle ace Marco Gonzales his first loss, scoring six second-inning runs en route to an 11-0 win Wednesday at T-Mobile Park.

Meanwhile, Jon Lester and two relievers allowed only one hit, a second-inning single by Ryon Healy off Lester.

Javier Baez homered to start the Cubs' second inning, one of three Chicago homers in the game, and then finished the six-run outburst with an RBI double.

Anthony Rizzo and Willson Contreras later homered for the Cubs (16-12), who won both games of the two-game set.

Baez went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jason Heyward had three hits.

Lester gave up the one hit while striking out eight and walking one in seven innings.

Gonzales, who fell to 5-1, didn't make it out of the second inning. He gave up five hits and six runs (three earned) in 1 2/3 innings.

The Mariners (18-15) have lost seven of their past nine games, and are 5-13 since starting the season 13-2.

After an off day Thursday, Seattle starts a 10-game road trip at Cleveland at 4 p.m. PT Friday. Yusei Kikuchi (1-1, 4.54) pitches for Seattle opposite Shane Bieber (2-1, 3.68).

The Mariners play three games at Cleveland, which swept them in a three-game series last month, and then four at New York Yankees and three at Boston Red Sox.
