Angels go back-to-back-to-back, beat Mariners 12-3
There was a much anticipated matchup of former Japanese stars Shohei Ohtani and Yusei Kikuchi on Saturday.
Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels star, got the best of Kikuchi as he notched two hits off the Seattle Mariners pitcher, including a homer that was part of a back-to-back-to-back fourth-inning homer barrage.
Tommy La Stella, Mike Trout and Ohtani hit consecutive homers off Kikuchi, all within four pitches, and the Angels went on to beat Seattle 12-3 at Anaheim, California.
Cesar Puello also homered for the Angels (31-34), a two-run shot.
Kyle Seager and Edwin Encarnacion homered for Seattle (27-41).
The Angels had 16 hits; Ohtani and Puello had three hits each. Ohtani scored three runs, Puello drove in four runs and Trout added a triple.
Kikuchi gave up nine hits and seven runs (six earned) while striking out only one and walking three in 3 1/3 innings.
The series finale is 1 p.m. Sunday. Wade LeBlanc (2-2, 5.70) pitches for Seattle opposite Jose Suarez (1-0, 4.76).
