Ten players who were Hillsboro Hops in 2018 are on the opening day roster for 2019.
The Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate on Monday announced its initial 28-player roster for the Single-A Northwest League season that opens on Friday with a game at Eugene.
Catcher Ryan January, catcher-first baseman Andy Yerzy and left-handed pitcher Trevor McKenna spent all of last season with the Hops.
Pitchers Adrian Del Moral, Harrison Francis, Luis Frias, Justin Garcia and Franklyn Soriano were with Hillsboro for much of the 2018 season.
Pitcher Jake Polancic and infielder David Garza Jr. spent a short amount of time in 2018 with the club.
Four of the Diamondbacks' top 30 prospects, according to MLBpipeline.com, are on the initial Hops roster: outfielder Kristian Robinson (ranked No. 5), Yerzy (No. 12), Francis (No. 21) and outfielder Jorge Barrosa (No. 22).
The MLBpipeline.com rankings do not include recently drafted players. Two 2019 draft picks, both infielders, are on the Hops' initial roster. They are 17th-round pick Nick Grande out of Stony Brook and 18th-round pick Ricky Martinez out of Tennessee. More first-year pros are expected to join the Hops as they sign with the Diamondbacks.
The Hops' first home game is at 7 p.m. June 21 against the Vancouver Canadians.
