Gurriel again beats Mariners in 10th
Yuli Gurriel played 10th-inning hero for the second day in a row as the Houston Astros beat the visiting Seattle Mariners 6-5 on Saturday at Minute Maid Park.
The Astros had been quiet since a five-run second inning.
Michael Brantley singled to lead off the 10th, ending a string of nine hitless innings for Seattle closer Roenis Elias (2-1).
Gurriel, whose 10th-inning homer on Friday beat the Mariners, then drove a ball past diving center fielder Mallex Smith to end the game.
Seattle is 37-50, 16.5 games behind American League West-leading Houston (52-32).
Tim Beckham, Domingo Santana and Daniel Vogelbach each homered for Seattle.
The Mariners scored four runs off of Houston starter Justin Verlander, who didn't make it out of the fifth inning for the first time this season.
Houston's five-run second against starter Yusei Kikuchi began with two walks and included one error and three consecutive hits.
That wiped out an early 2-0 Mariners lead. Seattle scored once in the third, fifth and seventh to tie the score.
Vogelbach had two of Seattle's seven hits, and Smith was 1 for 5 with a double.
The series at Houston wraps up with an 11 a.m. PT game Sunday. Left-hander Marco Gonzales (9-6, 4.34) will start for Seattle. Gerrit Cole (7-5, 3.42) is slated to open for Houston.
