Pickles give up 11 hits in 8-3 West Coast League baseball defeat at Bellingham

The Portland Pickles and Bellingham Bells are tied 1-1 going into Sunday's 1 p.m. finale of their three-game series at Bellingham.

The Bells never trailed on Saturday night as they won 8-3 before 1,908 fans at Joe Martin Field.

Portland had seven hits to 11 for Bellingham, but the Pickles mustered only a run in the fourth and two in the ninth.

The Pickles slipped to 9-13 in West Coast League play. Bellingham is 13-7.

Portland second baseman Everett Lau (Auburn) was 2 for 4, and designated hitter Jon Burghardt (Morehead State) had the team's only RBI.

Pickles starter Michael Newstrom (Washington State) fell to 0-2, giving up two runs on four hits in three innings.
