Beckham HR lifts Mariners
Tim Beckham hit a pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at T-Mobile Park.
Beckham hit a 1-2 pitch from Giovanni Gallegos (1-1) over the left field wall to lead off the eighth. It was his 13th home run of the season.
Roenis Elias earned his 11th save, allowing a Dexter Fowler one-out double in the ninth but striking out two and getting a Kolten Wong groundout to end the game.
The Mariners are 38-51.
The Cardinals are 41-42.
Seattle catcher Omar Narvaez put the Mariners up 5-1 with a two-run home run in the fifth, his 12th homer of the season. Narvaez and Austin Nola each went 2 for 4.
Nola doubled and scored on a Dee Gordon single in a two-run second inning. Gordon scored on a two-out walk.
Jose Martinez hit two solo homers for the Cardinals, and Yario Munoz hit a two-run home run off Anthony Bass to tie the score 4-4 in the seventh.
Beckham's home run made a winner of reliever Austin Adams (1-0), who struck out all four batters he faced.
Wade LeBlanc entered in the second inning and pitched 4.2 innings, allowing a run and four hits.
The three-game series with with the Cardinals continues at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
