The latest collection of Oregon Sports Awards winners for 2018-19 includes some top teams — the Oregon Ducks' NCAA Final Four women's basketball team and Southern Oregon's NAIA champions in softball and the Oregon Tech women's cross-country team that won the NAIA title — and two outstanding players from major boys high school sports.
Prep Football Player of the Year: Winner — Casey Filkins, Lake Oswego. Finalists: Michael Johnson Jr., Sheldon; Nathan Overholt, Wilsonville.
Prep Baseball Player of the Year: Winner — Mick Abel, Jesuit. Finalists: Christian Cooney, Central Catholic; Jacob Dobmeier, Newport.

Portland is in contention in the second half of the West Coast League South Division race. The Pickles were 9-4 through Saturday, 1.5 games behind the first-half winning Corvallis Knights.
The Pickles will be at Walker Stadium three times this week. A series with the Walla Walla Sweets has games at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Then the Pickles visit Port Angeles Lefties and the Bend Elks for three games each.
