Blazers 2019-20 schedule announced
A visit from the defending NBA champion Toronto Raptors in November. LeBron James and the Los Angeles Clippers in a pair of stops before New Year's. Giannis Antetekoumpo and the Milwaukee Bucks in January. The Miami Heat — with Meyers Leonard — come in February.
Those are some of the highlights of the Trail Blazers' schedule for the 2019-20 season, released Monday by the NBA.
Portland opens its 50th NBA season at home on Oct. 23 against Northwest Division rival Denver. The Blazers, who then go on a four-game road trip, play 13 of their first 18 games away from home, including a grueling six-game trek from Nov. 16-25 with stops in San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans and Milwaukee.
The Blazers also have a five-game trip beginning Jan. 1 in New York and a six-game junket in late March. Portland has a six-game homestand earlier in March, though, and closes with five of six games at home in April.
One bummer: the L.A. Clippers — now led by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and considered the early favorites to win a title — visit only once, in the regular-season finale on April 15. By that time, playoff seeding could be wrapped up and Coach Doc Rivers might be giving many of his regulars a rest.
