He drives in six runs to equal Detroit's output as Seattle opens nine-game road trip with 11-6 win

SEAGERThe Seattle Mariners started their nine-game road trip on a winning note — thanks to three home runs from Kyle Seager, and two from Tom Murphy.

Seager hit a solo homer, two-run homer and three-run homer for six RBIs as Seattle beat Detroit 11-6 Tuesday at Comerica Park. He hit the two-run homer in the ninth inning. His first two homers came off Matthew Boyd, the ex-Oregon State pitcher.

Boyd also gave up two solo homers for Murphy.

The Mariners only got 3 1/3 innings out of Yusei Kikuchi, and needed seven pitchers for the win.

John Hicks and Jake Rogers each homered for Detroit (35-81), which has the worst record in baseball.

Boyd (6-9, 4.38) gave up seven hits and seven runs (six earned) while striking out four and walking two in 5 1/3 innings.

The Mariners (49-71) and Tigers continue the series at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Marco Gonzales (12-9, 4.25) pitches for Seattle opposite Edwin Jackson (2-5, 9.35).
