Wormdahl scores twice, but own goal drops Ducks into season-opening tie
COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER
Oregon 2, FRESNO STATE 2
A sophomore forward from North Eugene High, Jordan Wormdahl, scored both goals for the Ducks as they opened with a draw at Fresno, California.
Her first career goal gave Oregon a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.
FSU tied the score three minutes later on a free kick.
The Ducks went ahead in the 42nd minute when Mia Palmer took a corner kick that Zoe Hasenauer redirected to Wormdahl for a header.
The Bulldogs scored on an own goal in the 88th minute.
"Really unlucky to give up that own goal late, but also really good to go out on the road and earn a draw with a veteran club like Fresno State," said Oregon's seventh-year coach, Kat Mertz. "It's disappointing to be so close and not finish the game the way we wanted to, but these things will also help better prepare us down the road."
Oregon will visit 13th-ranked Santa Clara at 1 p.m. Sunday.
