Alan CockrellThe Portland Beavers win their regular-season home finale for 1988, defeating the Vancouver Canadians 6-2 in a Pacific Coast League baseball game. Outfielder Alan Cockrell hits his first career grand slam to lead the Bevos before 5,188 fans at Civic Stadium. Attendance is up from 143,874 total in 1987 to 207,605.

• ML Denver Gold, a 3-year-old, wins the 25th annual Fawn Warrior Memorial Stakes at Multnomah Kennel Club. The winner paid $4.20 on the nose. Attendance was 6,376.
