Texas breaks 2-2 tie with unearned run, and then a homer and two-run double provide cushion; Mallex Smith has big night for Seattle

SANTANAAn unearned run, off an error by Kyle Seager, put Texas ahead, and the Rangers went on to beat Seattle 6-3 Friday at Globe Life Park at Arlington, Texas.

The score was tied when Seager's fielding error plated Scott Heineman in the fifth inning.

In the sixth, Danny Santana hit a solo homer and Jose Trevino hit a two-run double to put Texas up 6-2.

Mallex Smith, who had three hits and two runs scored and an RBI for Seattle, hit a triple in the seventh inning and scored on Andrus' throwing error.

Marco Gonzales (14-11) took the loss, giving up seven hits and six runs (five earned) in 5.2 innings. He struck out two and walked two.

Trevino went 3 for 3 for Texas.

The Rangers (66-70) and Mariners (57-79) play again at 5 p.m. PT Saturday. After an opener, Tommy Milone (3-8, 5.08) pitches for Seattle opposite Brock Burke (0-1, 0.75).
