Blazers drop exhibition
The Trail Blazers passed the halfway mark of their exhibition schedule with a 134-118 defeat by the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night at Moda Center.
CJ MCollum led Portland with 27 points in 30 minutes, making 10 of 17 field-goal attempts.
Damian Lillard added 18 points in 29 minutes on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor.
The Suns had seven players with 13 to 19 points, led by guard Kelly Oubre Jr., with 19.
Phoenix hit 24 of 45 shots (.533)from behind the 3-point line, while Portland was 11 of 29 (.379).
The Blazers trailed early, but finished the first quarter on top 33-32. McCollum had 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, going 2 of 3 from beyond the arc. Lillard started with him in the backcourt. Hassan Whiteside started at center, and the opening forwards were Kent Bazemore and Anthony Tolliver.
At the half, the Suns had a 65-58 lead, shooting .489 from the field and making 13 of 27 from 3-point distance to Portland's .622 and 7 of 15 on 3's. McCollum had 18 points in 18 first-half minutes.
After three quarters, Utah had a 103-89 edge.
The Blazers' remaining exhibitions are on the road — Oct. 16 at Utah and Oct. 17 at Denver, with tip-offs at 6 p.m. PT.
