Shelby Houlihan podcast
Shelby Houlihan is a distance runner in Portland, and one of the best in not only the United States but also the world. She is training with the Nike Bowerman Track Club for a big 2020 season and in hopes of making the U.S. team for the Summer Games in Japan.
The 26-year-old from Sioux City, Iowa had a big 2019. At the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships in July at Des Moines, she doubled in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters. She repeated as 1,500 champion, edging Jenny Simpson in a Drake Stadium-record 4 minutes, 3.46 seconds. She then won her third consecutive U.S. title in the 5,000 in 15:15.50.
In the October world championships at Doha, Qatar, Houlihan set an American record of 3:54.99, placing fourth.
Houlihan, a former Arizona State star, talks with Portland Tribune columnist Kerry Eggers in his latest podcast.
