The Oregon Ducks sweep — men and women — in NCAA Tournament play.
Oregon's surging men, a No. 12 seed, knock off a No. 5, Wisconsin, 72-54 in a first-round game at San Jose, California. Payton Pritchard leads the way with 19 points, Louis King scores 17, Paul White gets all 14 of his after halftime, and Kenny Wooten adds nine points and six rebounds and blocks four shots as Oregon improves to 24-12, and moves on to face No. 13 seed UC Irvine.
The UO women, seeded second, top 15th-seeded Portland State 78-40 at Matthew Knight Arena to open their national tourney hopes. Ruthy Hebard (22 points, 11 rebounds) and Satou Sabally (21 points, 16 rebounds) pace Oregon in stats, while Ashley Bolton ends her PSU career with 19 points. The Vikings finish 25-8. The Ducks next will face a 10th seed, Indiana.
• Trail Blazers swing man Jake Layman is snapping out of a slooping slump. He was 3 for 6 on 3-pointers and scored 13 points in Portland's most-recent game, a 126-118 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. He was starting for CJ McCollum, who had a knee injury.
• Three members of the Cadonau family dismiss their lawsuit against other family members in an ongoing dispute about a proposed sell of 52-acre Alpenrose Dairy and its assets for $35 million. Citing help from community members, the three family members reported that the pending sale was called off and that Alpenrose's future as a place for local events and dairy operations was secure, for now.
