The first-year Portland Timbers midfielder (first name pronounced JEEM-eee) comes from Cali, Colombia, and is the brother of Timbers veteran midfielder Diego Chara, who was born on April 5, 1986.

Yimmi Chara, 5-7 and 170 pounds, made his first professional appearance in 2010 and his national team debut in 2017. He has played in 10 games for his country, scoring one goal.

The Timbers acquired him via transfer as a designated player from Atletico Mineiro on Jan. 2, 2020. With Atletico Mineiro, he had 10 goals in 68 games (60 starts) during the 2018 and 2019. seasons.
