Oregon Ducks senior guard from West Linn honored with spot on elite Wooden list

PMG FILE PHOTO - PAYTON PRITCHARDNo. 13 for No. 3 arrived Wednesday, in the name of legendary basketball coach John Wooden.

Oregon Ducks guard Payton Pritchard, who wore No. 3 for the Ducks, collected his 13th All-America mention for 2019-20 by being named a first-teamer to the John R. Wooden Award Presented by Wendy's All-American team by the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

Ten players made first team. The others: Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson of Kansas, Malachi Flynn of San Diego State, Luke Garza of Iowa, Markus Howard of Marquette, Filip Petrusev of Gonzaga, Myles Powell of Seton Hall, Obi Toppin of Dayton and Cassius Winston of Michigan State.

Pritchard, who was a senior this season, is the fourth Ducks to make all-Wooden. Greg Ballard in 1977, Aaron Brooks in 2007 and Dillon Brooks in 2017 were the others.

Pritchard, from West Linn High, helped Oregon win the Pac-12 regular-season title outright, and gain the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament that was wiped out by the coronavirus pandemic.

He remains one of five finalists for the Naismith Trophy and Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award. The Naismith will be awarded Friday; the Cousy will be presented on Tuesday.
