Rendon homers, Angels rout Mariners, 10-2
Prized free agent Anthony Rendon was one of three hitters to hit home runs as the Los Angeles Angels beat Seattle 10-2 Tuesday at Angel Stadium.
Rendon's two-run, eighth-inning blast capped the scoring. Max Stassi and Albert Pujols also homered for L.A. (2-2).
The rebuilding Mariners (1-4) lost for the fourth time in five games on the road to start the 60-game season.
Rendon signed with the Angels after helping Washington win the 2019 World Series.
Justus Sheffield and two relievers were roughed up. Sheffield, a Seattle prospect, gave up three hits and four runs and walked four in three innings. Stassi hit a three-run homer off reliever Nestor Cortes.
Tim Lopes homered for Seattle. He's been an early highlight for the Mariners, batting .462. Kyle Lewis also had two hits, raising his average to .421.
The teams play again at 7 p.m. Wednesday with Justin Dunn pitching for the Mariners opposite Andrew Heaney.
