Seattle salvages game in Colorado series
The Seattle Mariners had lost six of the past seven games, but they came through with a win Sunday at T-Mobile Park thanks to Dylan Moore and Justus Sheffield.
Moore hit a two-run, first-inning homer and Sheffield allowed only four hits and struck out seven hitters in six innings as Seattle beat Colorado 5-3.
Colorado (11-4) had won the first two games of the series. But, Seattle (6-11) played well to salvage a game before hitting the road again for an eight-game road trip.
The Mariners play three games at Texas and Houston and then two games at the Los Angeles Dodgers (followed by two home games against the Dodgers).
Justin Dunn pitches for Seattle opposite Kyle Gibson in the first Texas game, 6 p.m. Monday.
Moore's homer Sunday gave Seattle an early lead. And, a sacrifice fly by Evan White and RBI singles by Tim Lopes and Dee Gordon made it 5-0 in the seventh inning.
Trevor Story, Matt Kemp and David Dahl had RBI singles in the eighth inning for Colorado.
But, Taylor Williams, from Camas, Washington, closed out the eighth and then the ninth for the save.
