Match at Providence Park without fans will be televised on CBS; it's the first of four games in the NWSL fall series

The Portland Thorns will open the National Women's Soccer League fall series with a nationally televised match against rival OL Reign.

The Sept. 12 match will be played without fans at Providence Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and the game can be seen on CBS (KOIN 6).

The second of Portland's four matches will be at noon on Sept. 20 at Providence Park against Utah Royals FC. That match will be streamed exclusively on Twitch.

Portland's other two matches during the fall series have not officially been announced, but the Thorns are tentatively slated to play on Oct. 3 at Utah and Oct. 10 in Tacoma against OL Reign.

The NWSL fall series includes 18 total matches over seven weeks. The nine teams are divided into three three-team pods and will play each other twice.

CBS will air a match each Saturday in September, beginning this Saturday, Sept. 5, with Sky Blue FC visiting the Washington Spirit at 10 a.m. CBS Sports Network will carry a game on three October Saturdays.

The four games give each NWSL team a chance for additional competition after the league completed the NWSL Challenge Cup in July. Many of the same COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place, with additional restrictions in place for games played in home markets.
