CANHAA pitching duel between Yusei Kikuchi and Chris Bassitt gave way to 10th inning scoring, and Oakland beat Seattle 3-1 Friday on Mark Canha's two-run homer.

The Athletics (35-22) are the American League West Division champs, and Seattle (25-32) is playing out the season after being eliminated from playoff contention.

The teams play a doubleheader at 1:10 p.m. Saturday. Seattle's Justin Dunn and Mike Minor pitching in the opener, and the Mariners' Justus Sheffield and Paul Blackburn in the second game.

Seattle's Kikuchi gave up four hits in six innings and Bassitt five hits in seven innings. Kikuchi struck out five and walked three, and Bassitt struck out six and walked none.

The teams failed to score through nine innings, making way for the 10th inning, in which each team started a runner at second base under 2020 rules.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, Ramon Laureano's double plated the tying run. Then, Canha went deep off Joey Gerber to end the game.
