Sunday college basketball — Forward Michaela Onyenwere scored after rebounding her own missed 3-pointer for the go-ahead basket with 51 seconds left for the go-ahead points as No. 11 UCLA beat No. 8 Oregon 73-71 in a Pac-12 women's basketball game at Matthew Knight Arena.
Oregon (8-1, 6-1 Pac-12) had three possessions with a chance to tie or take the lead, but couldn't get a tying or winning basket as a 27-game Ducks winning streak ended.
The Ducks twice fell behind by 11 in the second half and rallied both times, only to fall short in the final minute.
Onyenwere, a senior preseason all-American, scored 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Charisma Osborne added 22 points for the Bruins (6-2, 4-2).
Freshman guard Te-Hina Paopao led Oregon with 19 points and freshman post Angela Dugalic had 13 points and nine rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.
The loss ended a 25-game win streak in Pac-12 play and a 23-game home win streak for Oregon.
College men's basketball — No. 21 Oregon pulled away late in a 73-56 Saturday, Jan. 2, win over Stanford.
The Ducks (7-1, 3-0 Pac-12) outscored the Cardinal 28-10 over the final 9:45 to win for the 28th consecutive time at Matthew Knight Arena.
Seven of Oregon's last 10 field goals were 3-pointers, three of them from Chris Duarte, who scored 14 of the Ducks' last 16 points inside the final six minutes.
Duarte finished with 23 points, six rebounds and four steals. Eugene Omoruyi had 15 points, 11 in the second half when he made a pair of deep 3s, including a basket that put the Ducks up to stay, 48-46, with 9:21 left.
LJ Figuroa had 13 points, 12 rebounds and two steals and Eric Williams Jr. had 12 points.
• Oregon State 73, California 66 — The Beavers (5-3, 1-1 Pac-12) closed the game on a 10-1 run to complete a rally from a 10-point halftime deficit.
Maurice Calloo scored all 14 of his points in the second half, including two 3-pointers in a 10-0 run that put Oregon State ahead 61-56. His third 3 of the game gave OSU a five-point lead with 40 seconds left and the Beavers finished the win hitting 5 of 6 foul shots.
Jarrod Lucas had 11 points and Rodrigue Andela nine points and 11 boards for Oregon State.
Cal's Matt Bradley, who entered the day as the leading scorer in the Pac-12 (20 ppg), injured his ankle with 3:31 left in the first half and did not return. He finished with five points in 13 minutes.
Saturday women's basketball — For the second time in three days, Eastern Washington won at Portland State, beating the Vikings 73-67. Portland State (1-3, 0-2 Big Sky) trailed by 16 at halftime, but outscored EWU 27-13 in the third quarter behind 4-for-4 3-point shooting from Jada Lewis. It was the second time in as many games that Portland State had a big third quarter but couldn't overcome a halftime deficit against the Eagles.
• Pilots game postponed — Saturday's scheduled game between Portland and Pacific at Chiles Center was postponed because of COVID-19 protocols. No makeup date was announced. Portland's Monday, Jan. 4, home game against St. Mary's remains scheduled.
