Blazers acquire Powell from Toronto
The Trail Blazers have acquired guard Norman Powell from the Toronto Raptors. The team announced the trade Thursday.
Gary Trent Jr. and Rodney Hood were sent to the Raptors.
Powell, 27, played at UCLA and is in his sixth NBA season. The 6-3, 215-pound Powell is averaging a career-high 19.6 points. He's shooting .498 from the floor, including .439 on 3-pointers (averaging 6.4 3-point attempts a game).
He helped the Raptors win the 2019 NBA championship.
He was originally selected out of UCLA by Milwaukee with the 46th pick of the 2015 NBA Draft before being acquired by Toronto in a draft night trade.
"Gary and Rodney have been valuable members of our organization the past three seasons and we appreciate their numerous contributions on the floor and in the Portland community," said Neil Olshey, Portland director of basketball operations. "We wish them continued success and happiness in Toronto."
Powell will wear No. 24 for the Trail Blazers.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted the news about the trade Thursday morning.
