Pro baseball

Mariners 8, Twins 6 — Seattle won the three-game series at Minnesota, as Kyle Seager homered twice, including hitting a go-ahead, three-run shot off reliever Alex Colome in the top of the ninth inning. The Mariners trailed 6-0 when Seager hit a solo homer in the sixth inning, followed by Taylor Trammell's three-run homer as part of the comeback. Seager had four hits. Minnesota's Byron Buxton had three hits, including a homer.

The Mariners play four games at Baltimore next, starting at 4:05 p.m.

College baseball

Ducks 5, Beavers 4, 11 innings — Oregon scored the winning run on an error, capping a rally from 4-1 down in the late innings to sweep the three-game series at PK Park in Eugene. Oregon is 19-7 and 6-3 in Pac-12 play, tied for first with Stanford. OSU fell to 21-10 and 7-5.

College softball

Bruins 6, Ducks 2 — No. 2-ranked UCLA (22-2, 5-1) won the final three games of the four-game series with No. 3 Oregon (27-5, 6-3), including Sunday's game in which the Bruins overcame early homers by UO's Allee Bunker and Haley Cruse.

Huskies 2, Beavers 1 — Washington's Gabbie Plain moved to 20-0, allowing only one hit (an RBI single Ashton Zeiher). A fifth-inning homer by Sis Bates was the game-winning hit. Washington is 31-5 (9-2 Pac-12) and OSU 15-17 (3-9).


Pro baseball

Mariners 4, Twins 3, 10 innings — Seattle scored on a Mitch Haniger sacrifice fly in the extra inning to top Minnesota. Keynan Middleton, who attended Milwaukie High, got the final three outs for the save. Taylor Trammell hit his first career homer, and Haniger also went deep. Nelson Cruz homered for the Twins.

The series concludes at 11:10 a.m. PT Sunday.

College baseball

Ducks 5, Beavers 1 — Oregon goes for the three-game sweep Sunday. Cullen Kafka allowed four hits and a run in 5 2/3 innings.

Pilots 7, Cougars 6 — Ty Saunders' ninth-inning single gave Portland a win at Provo, Utah. Chad Stevens had four hits. Ben Patacsil homered.

College softball

Bruins won 3-0 and 9-3 — Oregon dropped two games to UCLA. Oregon had eight hits in the opener but the Bruins' Aaliyah Jordan and Rachel Garcia homered. Delanie Wisz homered for UCLA in the next game, and Allee Bunker homered for UO.

Huskies won 4-2, Beavers won 3-1— Frankie Hammoude homered in the OSU loss in the first game (as UW's Gabbie Plain moved to 19-0) and Morgan Allen homered as OSU beat the No. 6 Huskies in the second game.

Vikings 10, Thunderbirds 4 — Rachel Menlove and Tayler Gunesch homered for Portland State in the road win at Cedar City, Utah.


College softball

Ducks 3, Bruins 0 — Brooke Yanez allowed two hits and Allee Bunker hit a two-run homer as No. 3 Oregon beat No. 2 UCLA in the first of four games at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene. The series continues at 1 p.m. (on ESPN2) and 4 p.m. (on Pac-12 Network) on Saturday.

Oregon is 27-2 (6-1 Pac-12) and UCLA is 19-2 (3-1 Pac-12).

Huskies 2, Beavers 0 — Washington pitcher Gabbie Plain moved to 18-0 with a two-hit shutout. Baylee Klinger had an RBI double. Washington (29-4) is ranked No. 6; Oregon State is 14-15.

Thunderbirds 11, Vikings 10 — Portland State (4-21) lost its second consecutive game at Cedar City, Utah, despite leading 7-0 after two innings. The Vikings had 18 hits, including four by Rachel Menlove (and four RBIs). Brooke Brown homered for Southern Utah.

College baseball

Cougars 1, Pilots 0 — Peter Allegro was the tough-luck losing pitcher as Brigham Young scored in the ninth inning at Provo, Utah. After a walk, Eli Morse replaced Allegro and an error put runners on first and second base. Jacob Wilk hit an RBI single off Morse to score the game's only run.

Christian Peters and Allegro combined to give up only two hits in the first eight innings. The Pilots had eight hits.

Portland is 15-14, BYU is 10-16.

Ducks 4, Beavers 1 — No. 20 Oregon (17-7) topped No. 18 OSU (21-8) in the first game of a big series at PK Park in Eugene. Gabe Matthews hit a solo homer and later plated a run on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth inning; two other runs scored in the eighth on bases-loaded walks.


Pro baseball

Twins 10, Mariners 2 — Mitch Garver hit a three-run homer, Luis Arraez a two-run shot and Byron Buxton a solo home run as Minnesota celebrated its home opener with a win. The Twins had 16 hits; every starter had at least one hit. Marco Gonzales struggled on the mound for the Mariners.

Jose Marmolejos homered for Seattle. Luis Torrens had three hits.

In other news, it was announced that pitcher James Paxton will likely undergo Tommy John surgery on his left pitching elbow and miss the season.

College baseball

Portland 5, BYU 3 — At Provo, Utah, Pilots pitchers Brett Gillis, Caleb Franzen and Eli Morse combined for 15 strikeouts and Portland scored three times in the top of the seventh to take the WCC series opener. BYU made four errors.


Pro baseball

Mariners 8, White Sox 4 — Seattle fell behind 4-1, but then erupted for seven runs in the sixth inning. Kyle Seager cleared the bases with a double, one of his three hits, to make it 7-4 and Jose Marmalejos plated Seager with a single.

Seattle takes to the road for the first time with series at Minnesota and Baltimore.


College baseball

Portland 6, Oregon 4 — The Pilots (14-13) topped the Ducks (16-7) in a nonleague game at PK Park in Eugene. Sam Brown had three hits and three RBIs and Chad Stevens four hits and two RBIs.

Gonzaga 5, Oregon State 2 — The Beavers (21-7) lost at home and now prepare to play Oregon in a three-game series, Friday-Sunday in Eugene. Grayson Sterling homered for Gonzaga.

Pro baseball

White Sox 10, Mariners 4 — Zack Collins hit a 3-run homer, Luis Robert a 2-run tiebreaking shot and then Jose Abreu topped them both with an eighth-inning grand slam. Lucas Giolito struck out 10 in 5 1/3 innings. Seattle starter James Paxton left after 24 pitches with left (throwing) elbow discomfort.

College softball

Portland State (4-19) had a home doubleheader with Eastern Oregon canceled.


Pro baseball

White Sox 6, Mariners 0 — The middle of the White Sox order was a problem for Justus Sheffield in his first 2021 start for the Mariners. Chicago scored three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth, and that was more than enough for a Mariners' lineup that managed only three hits.

College baseball

Oregon State 11, Gonzaga 3 — Andy Armstrong had three hits and knocked in six runs for the Beavers in the non-conference win at Corvallis.
